Our Next Diversity Collaborative Meeting

Please mark your calendars for our next GPDC meeting on Monday, February 24, 2014. This meeting will be held at Frankford Friends School beginning at 4:30PM.  The school is located at 1500 Orthodox Street, Philadelphia, PA 19124. Middle School Diversity Conference – Registration Ends Soon!!

MCRC Middle School Conference 
 
The 3rd Annual Middle School Diversity Conference will be on Tuesday, March 11th at The Haverford School.  Registration will begin on January 6th, 2013 and last till February 7th, 2013. 
 
The Conference is open to all middle school students 6th, 7th & 8th grades attending independent schools in this area. Please use the link below for more information and to register your students.
 
 
The MCRC Middle School Diversity Conference is a student leadership conference that provides an opportunity for Middle School aged students to discuss and learn about diversity topics in their schools and communities at large. The conference works to promote leadership development and a platform for all students to understand the value of equity work. 
 
 

 

Racial Identity Forum on Saturday, January 11 (2PM)

The Greater Philadelphia Diversity Collaborative invites you to a free program: Racial Identity Forum

“Positive Multiculturalism – Helping Our Children Develop and Maintain a Positive Racial and Ethnic

Identity in a Complicated World”

Presenters: Susan McGroarty, Ph.D., ABPP, Chestnut Hill College and Cheryll Rothery, Psy.D., ABPP, Chestnut Hill College

In this informative, 3 hour workshop, Drs. McGroarty and Rothery, both experienced educators, clinicians, diversity trainers, and parents, will:

1) Explore the stages of ethnic/racial identity development in the context of multiple systems,

such as the family, the neighborhood and school, and within the larger society;

2) Explore ways to help children and adolescents process and respond to overt racial

discrimination and racial incidents; and

3) Explore ways to affirm and foster children’s and adolescents’ positive ethnic/racial identity

Parents, teachers, care givers, counselors and all who nurture children and young people are encouraged to attend.
