Screening of “Brother Outsider” on May 4

Join us for a very special screening of “Brother Outsider”
and a discussion with the filmmaker Bennett Singer
The Miquon School Multicultural Alliance is thrilled to host a very special screening of “Brother Outsider,” a film about the life of Bayard Rustin, the mastermind behind the March on Washington.

The Miquon School
Sunday, May 4
4:00 – 6:00 pm
The screening will include a shortened version of the film and a discussion with the filmmaker, Bennett Singer. The focus of the discussion will be how Rustin’s life can be a catalyst for social change. Due to sensitive material, this film is most appropriate for children ages 12 and older along with their parents.
Rustin grew up in West Chester, PA and became a war protester, greatly influenced by a visit to India and the teachings of Gandhi.  As the film reveals, Rustin’s enormous role in the Civil Rights movement and as a close advisor to Martin Luther King are largely unknown because he was gay.  The recipient of numerous awards, “Brother Outsider” was an Official Selection at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and won the 2004 GLAAD MEDIA AWARD for Outstanding Documentary.
Bring your friends! This is a free and open event where we welcome the surrounding community to share in the screening and discussion.
